We are delighted to offer you the chance to join us for a special tasting and dinner hosted by Simon Larkin MW, featuring a range of classed growth Bordeaux of the last 20 years, in a beautiful setting, namely The Hazel Room, Cromwell Place, Kensington on Wednesday 24th May.

The theme will be Grand Vin versus Second Wine, though many ‘second wines’ now identify as ‘wines from separate vineyards under the same ownership, rather than wines from fruit that didn’t make the cut for the Grand Vin from a Château’s main vineyard’. So, while we do not wish to divulge the entire tasting list at this point as a couple of pairings may be served blind, we can tell you that Château Ducru-Beaucaillou will feature along with La Croix de Beaucaillou, both in the same noteworthy vintage, as will be the case with each pairing, just to give you a clearer idea of the format. We will show one pair of white Bordeaux, four pairs of red Bordeaux, including a First Growth as well as a final pair of Sauternes. All will be matched to a three-course dinner specially prepared by the head chef at Cromwell Place.

The tasting list will give us the opportunity to taste some notable Bordeaux and consider the merits of specific vintages as well as the merits of purchasing second wines or the wines of an affiliated property. It is always fascinating to have the opportunity to compare and contrast, even more so when you are considering the quality of two wines from the same Château.  And don’t fear any blind wines will be disclosed as we progress through the dinner – and it is likely to be just one or two pairings so it won't be particularly onerous. Experience suggests this approach invariably helps the broader discussion and the evening's enjoyment.
